The desert is one of my favorite places to shoot. It never looks the same twice — every season brings new colors. There’s something about the open space that makes it feel so peaceful. That’s exactly how I’d describe Jalen and James’ engagement session — calm, dreamy, and full of joy.
It was actually around 100 degrees that day (classic desert weather), but you’d never know it from how effortless these two made it look. The sky was a little overcast, which softened the light and made everything glow in the prettiest golden tones. Jalen and James wore white, which stood out beautifully against the warm desert colors.
Their session was full of laughter, sweet moments, and so much love. They have such a natural connection that photographing them felt easy — like hanging out with old friends. I love sessions like this because they remind me how important it is to slow down and just let couples be themselves.
This shoot was also a perfect example of why I always recommend doing an engagement session before your wedding day. It gives you a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and see how I guide and direct during your session. By the time your wedding comes around, it all feels so natural — like we’ve already spent time together.
If you’ve been thinking about doing your engagement photos in the desert, this is your sign. There’s something so peaceful about being surrounded by that endless landscape, soft light, and quiet. It’s the kind of place that lets you slow down, be present, and just enjoy the moment together.
